Bio
Hello, welcome, and thank you for visiting!
I am a Washington State Licensed Mental Health Counselor who has been practicing psychotherapy since 1997, and an Approved Supervisor for LMHC Associates since 2003. I’m an Adjunct Faculty Instructor for the Master of Arts in Psychology program at Seattle University (since 2008) where I teach introductory and advanced courses in Therapeutic Listening Skills. Seattle U’s graduate program emphasizes reflective experiential work and a close examination of the role of relational process in therapy.
I am credentialed as a Certified Focusing Trainer and a Certified Focusing-Oriented Psychotherapist (2011) by the International Focusing Institute, a cross-cultural organization supporting individuals and groups world-wide who are practicing, teaching, and developing Eugene T. Gendlin Ph.D.’s experiential process and its underlying philosophy.
My professional background also includes developmental psychology and special education research at the University of Washington, where I worked on projects conducted by Dr. John M. Gottman and the National Institute on Child Health and Human Development, among others. As a founding member of the Seattle-based non-profit Psychotherapy Cooperative, I served for over 25 years in a variety of roles: as a mental health therapist, clinical supervisor, on the Board of Directors, and as President of the Board of Directors for two terms.
My areas of special interest include experiential learning and teaching, Focusing / Focusing-oriented psychotherapy and case consultation, self-care for helping professionals, and creativity+well-being. I also create visual art and feel fortunate for the opportunities I have had to share my work in Seattle and beyond via exhibitions, publications, public art installation, and charitable donations. Alongside engaging these passions, I am an avid fan of sipping great coffee from a nice big mug, preferably in the company of both my two- and four-legged family members.
